T/Chief Superintendent Pete Lightwood
Pete spent most of his early West Mercia career at Hereford and Telford in a variety of roles as constable, patrol sergeant, custody sergeant and detective sergeant. He was promoted to inspector at Shrewsbury in 1991 and the same year, completed a part-time Masters Degree in Business Administration at Wolverhampton Business School.
From 1991 to 1993, he was seconded to Force headquarters working on several projects including the introduction of a computerised command and control and duties system for deploying officers. In 1995, whilst working as a patrol inspector at Telford, he also managed an intelligence-led policing project for the force.
As a chief inspector in the Criminal Justice Department, he managed the introduction of new technology and a major restructure of the department at no extra cost.
In 2002, he was promoted to the Superintendent Operations role at Shropshire and in 2006 became chair of the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Silver Operations Group, which plans and exercises for the multi-agency response to significant and major incidents. For several years, he has managed operations involving armed and public order incidents.
He has also chaired the Performance Management and Commissioning Group, a county forum comprising of several partner agencies which manages the multi-agency approach to crime and disorder and protecting the most vulnerable communities in Shropshire .
In December 2011, Pete was promoted to temporary chief superintendent and took charge of the Territorial Policing Command, overseeing local policing across the whole of West Mercia.
