North Worcestershire Division Policing Plan 2009/10

Introduction

North Worcestershire Division covers the three Local District Council areas of Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest. The Division has a population of 267,500 with 110,150 households. This is a diverse geographical and multi cultural area with many new and emerging communities. We have three larger principle police stations, at Bromsgrove, Redditch and Kidderminster, which is also the Divisional Headquarters; smaller out-stations at Hagley, Rubery, Wythall, Stourport and Bewdley, and a number of other small local bases. The Division has a range of local, 24-hour response and specialist teams including Crime Investigation and Public Protection responding to the wide and varied community needs supported by administrative and other support services. The Division has 483 Police Officers, 124 Police staff, 53 Community Support Officers and 29 Special Constables.

Foreword from the Divisional Commander

In 2009/10 we want to continue improving the quality of service we provide to victims and witnesses of crime and improve the level of public confidence and satisfaction with our service. This will be underpinned by strong partnerships and relationships with other agencies to maximise opportunities for reducing and detecting crime and anti social behaviour and building confidence.

There will be strong, visible, active leadership and an emphasis on appropriate staff training and development. We will also ensure we have the right resources in the right place at the right time to deliver the required services and protect the public.

Chief Superintendent David Spencer

Foreword from the Chair of North Worcestershire Policing Board

Close working relationships between the Police Authority, West Mercia Police and our partners are important in helping to build an increasingly effective and efficient Police service and a safer community. This requires consultation with the community at meetings such as PACT (Partners and Communities Together), PMGs (Policing Matters Groups) and with partner agencies. 2008/09 was an exceptionally busy year for the Division, with a number of major crime investigations, some of which attracted national media attention. I was privileged to have an insight into the work of the West Mercia at those difficult times and I congratulate officers and staff at all levels on their hard work and success.

Colonel Tony Ward, OBE

West Mercia Police 3-year Plan

Serving - Protecting - Making the Difference

Our aim for 2012 is that :

  • The public have confidence in us and express satisfaction with our policing service
  • Levels of crime and anti-social behaviour remain low
  • Our communities feel safe

To deliver the 3-year Plan, North Worcestershire Division's priorities for 2009/10 are to:

  • Implement a programme of work to deliver the Policing Pledge and improve satisfaction and confidence in our service provision.
  • Maximise the effective deployment of staff and quality assurance of investigations, in particular for all incidents of house burglary, robbery and serious violence, to maximise detection opportunities and meet the expectations of victims.
  • Continue our engagement in multi-agency and partnership initiatives that address alcohol and drug abuse, crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • Continually review District and Departmental resources, patterns of work and working practices to reflect the known crime trends, other policing issues and community needs.

In developing these priorities we have taken into account our local crime and disorder reduction partnership strategies and the Worcestershire Local Area Agreement.

Local Policing Teams

Local Policing aims to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve, by providing an accessible, effective and responsive service. Our 30 Local Policing Teams across the Division have adopted a flexible and community led approach which ensures they can meet the needs of our diverse communities, as well as complementing existing community engagement activities.

Posters and leaflets with the names and photographs of your local officers have been widely distributed in Local Policing areas. Visitors to the West Mercia Police website, www.westmercia.police.uk , can also obtain this information by clicking on the Local Policing section on the front page.

You can contact your Local Policing team direct, in person, by email or telephone or you can meet them at your local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting. Details of PACT meetings are on the website as are contact details, which can also be obtained by calling 0300 333 3000. In response to public feedback this new, low call rate number has replaced the previous, more expensive, 0845 number.

During the next 12 months we intend to maintain our current Local Policing arrangements, develop various community engagement activities including our PACT meetings to further include new and emerging communities, and ensure we are fully supporting the ethos of the Policing Pledge.
