There are 43 Local Policing Teams within the Division, which employs 412 police officers, 113 police staff, 80 Community Support Officers, supported by 62 Special Constables. Foreword from the Divisional Commander

In 2009/10 we intend to continue to improve the quality of service that we give to the people of Shropshire, and to improve the level of public confidence and satisfaction with our service. This is the key objective of the policing plan, and in delivering this, we will listen carefully to local communities and their opinions. This will be underpinned by strong partnerships and working relationships with other agencies to maximise the opportunities for reducing and detecting crime and anti social behaviour. In order to achieve this, there will be strong and visible leadership to ensure that we have the right resources in the right place, at the right time to meet the needs of our communities and people.

Chief Superintendent Andy Rowsell

Foreword from the Chair of Shropshire Policing Board

Customer satisfaction and confidence in the policing service are the key objectives of the 2009/10 Policing Plan which aims to provide quality services through engagement with communities. Partnership working with both key stakeholders and the public will play an important part in leading to a safer environment. I commend the 2009/10 Policing Plan.

Councillor Miles Kenny

West Mercia Police 3-year Plan

Serving - Protecting - Making the Difference

Our aim for 2012 is that:

  • The public have confidence in us and express satisfaction with our policing service
  • Levels of crime and anti-social behaviour remain low
  • Our communities feel safe

To deliver the 3-year Plan, Shropshire Division's priorities for 2009/10 are to:

  • Ensure all of our staff deliver the highest possible quality of service to all our communities in order to improve Customer Satisfaction and Confidence (Every Contact Matters).
  • Focus on drug and alcohol misuse, burglary of homes, robbery, serious violent crime, commercial and agriculture premises, theft of and from motor vehicles and anti-social behaviour that affects our communities.
  • Continue to work with our partner agencies to reduce road casualties by using targeting and enforcement campaigns.
  • Maximise the positive impact of the new and merged Shropshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and Drug and Alcohol Team in reducing crime and improving community safety.
  • Work with partners to tackle our persistent and prolific offenders, to prevent their re-offending.
  • Build on improving the criminal justice services relating to domestic abuse, in particular :
Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) to improve the safety of victims of domestic abuse and implementation of the Specialist Domestic Violence Court Programme.

In developing these priorities we have taken into account our local crime and disorder reduction partnership strategies and local area agreements

Local Policing Teams

Within Shropshire Division there are over 130 Police Officers, Community Support Officers and Special Constables working in 43 Local Policing Teams. All areas within the Division are covered by a dedicated Local Policing Team.

The Local Policing Teams provide a community based approach to policing. They focus upon solving local problems and establishing good relationships with residents and other agencies (such as Shropshire Council) to make Shropshire an even better place for our communities to live and work in, feeling safe.

Posters and leaflets with the names and photographs of your local officers have been widely distributed in Local Policing areas. You can contact your Local Policing team direct, in person, by email or telephone or you can meet them at your local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting. Details of PACT meetings are on the West Mercia Police website www.westmercia.police.uk by clicking on the Local Policing section on the front page, as are contact details, which can also be obtained by calling 0300 333 3000.
