Telford & Wrekin Divison Policing Plan 2009/10
Introduction
Telford & Wrekin Division is split into five command areas known as Central, Newport, North, South and Wellington with a local Police Station situated in each area and the Divisional Headquarters in the Central sector at Malinsgate. The Division has a population of 161,669 with diverse and emerging communities all of whom deserve their own style of local policing. Within Local Policing there are 4 Inspectors supervising 20 Local Policing Teams comprising 25 Police Officers, 37 Community Support Officers and 35 Special Constables. In addition to this, the Division has a range of other resources that bring unique skills to each area including 24 hour Response Officers, Specialist Crime Investigators, and officers who have expertise in drug investigations, public protection and road policing. Collectively, these officers work for the community tackling a wide range of serious crime and quality of life issues on a daily basis.
Foreword from the Divisional Commander
In 2009/10 we aim to consolidate the good performance of previous years. In particular, we will continue to focus on reducing alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour and violent crime so as to make the night-time economy a safer place. We will listen carefully to local communities and provide a style of policing that suits their needs, tackling local issues of concern and aiming to improve their satisfaction with the service they receive. With partners, we will continue to work closely with persistent offenders, to help them break their circle of offending knowing that they as a small group commit a disproportionate amount of crime in our community.
Chief Superintendent Peter Robinson
Foreword from the Chair of Telford & Wrekin Policing Board
I have been in this position since June 2007 and I have been working closely with the local Chief Superintendent on various issues, one of which is developing joint consultation and community engagement arrangements with our partners. This has led to the formation of public meetings called "Your Community Matters" where local residents can meet their Divisional Commander, Local Police Authority Members and our Partners, to find out about local services and to give their views. Community consultation should be at the heart of our local policing. I believe in the local community having an influence on local policing and that's what we are endeavouring to improve here in Telford.
Councillor Kuldip Sahota
West Mercia Police 3-year Plan
Serving - Protecting - Making the Difference
Our aim for 2012 is that:
- The public have confidence in us and express satisfaction with our policing service
- Levels of crime and anti-social behaviour remain low
- Our communities feel safe
To deliver the 3-year Plan, Telford & Wrekin Division's priorities for 2009/10 are to:
- Strengthen the confidence of all our communities and improve public satisfaction levels by delivering a style of policing which is locally influenced. The "Your Community Matters" meetings will allow direct access to the Divisional Commander and Chair of the Policing Board ensuring your voice is heard.
- Improve the service offered to victims and witnesses by embedding the principles of the Victims Code and the Policing Pledge with our staff, so that the needs of customers are at the heart of what we do.
- Tackle crime and anti-social behaviour by focusing on a small group of Persistent Offenders, who are driven by drug and alcohol abuse.
- Use our resources more efficiently and effectively, to improve investigations and our ability to respond to crimes and incidents in a timely manner.
In developing these priorities we have taken into account our local crime and disorder reduction partnership strategies and local area agreements.
