Herefordshire Division Policing Plan 2009/10

Introduction

Herefordshire Division is split into 3 command areas - North, Hereford, and South - and serves a population of 178,000 permanent residents as well as significant numbers visiting the county. There are 20 Local Policing Teams within the Division, which has 286 police officers, 102 police staff, and 38 Community Support Officers, supported by 31 Special Constables. The Divisional Headquarters is in Bath Street, Hereford.
Mark Turner

Foreword from the Divisional Commander

The last year has seen much to celebrate for policing in Herefordshire - not least of all real reductions in overall crime and in anti-social behaviour. The county is a safe place in which to live, work and visit, and increasingly so. Notwithstanding this, we have had to deal with a number of most serious crimes and have risen to the challenge with dedication and professionalism.

We remain anything but complacent and I relish the challenge to maintain and improve standards of engaging with people in the community, responding to their needs and looking after the particular needs of victims and witnesses. I look forward to our continuing to work with the people of Herefordshire and the many organisations serving them to improve things even further in our county.

Chief Superintendent Mark Turner

Foreword from the Chair of Herefordshire Policing Board

I remain delighted to be directly involved in ensuring that local policing in Herefordshire continues to reflect the priorities of the various communities in the county. I know that the officers, Community Support Officers, other staff and the volunteers within the Special Constabulary take great pride in maintaining and improving professional standards.

This is to be seen, for example, in the large numbers of dedicated Local Policing Teams, the quality of investigations or the standard of care provided to those affected by crime, road traffic collisions and other matters. This plan contains the basic priorities the Herefordshire Division will continue to pursue to ensure that their communities are satisfied about the services delivered and confident that their Police will be able to rise to the many challenges that doubtless lie ahead. I wish them every continued success in their efforts.

Local Policing Teams

Within Herefordshire, there are 20 Local Policing Teams consisting of a total of 56 Police Officers and Community Support Officers together with 31 Special Constables. Every part of the county is served by a dedicated Local Policing Team. Together with their colleagues in other roles, they aim to provide an accessible, effective and responsive service at a local level.

Posters and leaflets with the names and photographs of your local officers have been widely distributed in Local Policing areas. Visitors to the West Mercia Police website www.westmercia.police.uk can also obtain this information by clicking on the Local Policing section on the front page; this includes how to contact your Local Policing Team directly by email or telephone. Details are also available by "texting" PLEDGE followed by a space and your postcode to 66101.

You can meet your Local Policing Team at your local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings or surgeries. Details of PACT meetings are on the website as are contact details, which can also be obtained by calling 0300 333 3000. In response to public feedback this new, low call rate number has replaced the previous, more expensive, 0845 number.

During the next 12 months we intend to maintain our current Local Policing arrangements, develop various community engagement activities including the PACT processes to further include new and emerging communities, and ensure we are fully supporting the ethos of the Policing Pledge.
