Shropshire Foreword
We remain committed to promoting community safety, improving public confidence and satisfaction in policing services and protecting the public. We place great importance upon listening to the needs and concerns of our communities and seeking a clear understanding of what is important to them.
Over the next year and beyond, our aim is to work smarter, operate using streamlined processes and focus all of our efforts on serving and protecting the public of Shropshire in the best and most effective way that we can.
Foreword from the Chair of Shropshire Policing Board
Our priority for 2010/11 is to deliver the Policing Pledge, continuing to reduce crime leading to safer communities. Our partners and key stakeholders will play an important part in helping to deliver the Policing Pledge. I commend the 2010/11 Policing Plan.
Councillor Miles Kenny
West Mercia Police Three Year Plan
Serving - Protecting - Making the Difference
Our aim for 2013 is that:
- The public have confidence in us and express satisfaction with our policing service
- Levels of crime and anti-social behaviour remain low
- Our communities feel safe
To deliver the Three Year Plan, Shropshire's priorities for 2010/11 are to:
- Continue to deliver all the commitments of the Policing Pledge ensuring all of our staff deliver the highest possible quality of service to all our communities in order to improve customer satisfaction and confidence.
- Focus on those offences and incidents that are triggered by drug and alcohol misuse and affect our communities the most, (burglary of homes, robbery, serious violent crime, serious sexual offences and anti-social behaviour).
- Continue to work with our partner agencies to reduce road casualties.
- Work in partnership with the newly formed Shropshire Council to improve community safety and reduce crime through the Shropshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, and the Drug and Alcohol Team.
- Work with partners to tackle our persistent and prolific offenders, to prevent their re-offending and implement the Integrated Offender Management scheme for Shropshire.
- Build on improving the criminal justice services relating to domestic abuse, in particular: Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) to improve the safety of victims of domestic abuse, and implementation of the Specialist Domestic Violence Court Programme.
In developing these priorities we have taken into account our local crime and disorder reduction partnership strategies and the Shropshire Local Area Agreement.
Local Policing Teams
Within Shropshire TPU there are over 130 Police Officers, Community Support Officers and Special Constables working in 43 Local Policing Teams. All areas within the TPU are covered by a dedicated Local Policing Team.
The Local Policing Teams provide a community based approach to policing. They focus upon solving local problems and establishing good relationships with residents and other agencies (such as Shropshire Council) to make Shropshire an even better place for our communities to live and work in, feeling safe.
Posters and leaflets with the names and photographs of your local officers have been widely distributed in Local Policing areas. You can contact your Local Policing team direct, in person, by email or telephone or you can meet them at your local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting. Details of PACT meetings are on the West Mercia Police website www.westmercia.police.uk by clicking on the Local Policing section on the front page, as are contact details, which can also be obtained by calling 0300 333 3000.
