How to Tell if You Are a Victim of Identity Fraud

You may become a victim of identity fraud if:

  • Your passport or driving licence has been lost or stolen.
  • Post expected from your bank or a financial services company has not arrived.
  • You are receiving no post at all.
  • Your home has been burgled and financial statements / receipts taken.
  • You have given your personal details to a bogus cold caller or business.
  • A criminal has seen or overheard you using your credit / debit card.

Be Suspicious If:

  • Items appear on your bank or credit card statements that you do not recognise.
  • When applying for state benefit you are told that you are already claiming.
  • Bills, invoices or receipts are addressed to you for goods or services you haven't asked for.
  • Applications for a financial service, such as a credit card or a loan, are refused despite having a good credit history .
  • A mobile phone contract has been set up in your name without your knowledge.
  • Solicitors or debt collection agencies contact you for debts which are not yours.
