Think You've Been Burgled?

If someone is breaking into your home phone 999. We will send help as quickly as possible.

If you return home and believe that somebody is in your house, do not challenge the intruder. Instead, call the police from a safe place, either on a mobile phone or from a neighbouring property, and wait for officers to arrive. Let the officers know if you have seen anyone leaving your property.

If you have been burgled but the intruder has left, telephone 999. Again we will get to you as quickly as possible. Do not touch anything as the burglar may have left evidence, e.g. fingerprints or a footprint. Once the police have been:

  • Make a note of items that have been stolen
  • If cheque books, credit cards or bank statements have been taken, inform your bank or credit card company immediately
  • If your passport or driving licence has been stolen, tell the issuing authorities
  • Contact your insurance company for a claim form

The police will do everything possible to find those responsible. Officers will give you a crime report with details of how to find out about the progress of your case. Arrangements may be made for a forensic investigator or a police officer to visit you.
