Drink and Drug Driving
Although drinking and driving or getting behind the wheel while impaired through drugs is much more socially unacceptable than in the past, there are still a small minority of motorists who are either ignorant of the dangers or who are prepared to run the risk.
Sadly, the risks are very real and around 600 people a year die in the UK as a result of impaired driving. Nearly one in six of all road deaths involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.
Reducing these numbers is a year-round priority for West Mercia Police and approximately five people are arrested each day for drink or drug driving. We carry out a number of additional operations each year to target drink and drug drivers, tying into public awareness campaigns run by the Safer Roads Partnership.
