Take Control

Two-wheeled powered vehicles make up approximately one per cent of all road traffic and yet in West Mercia, nearly 23 per cent of all fatal and serious injury casualties involved in road traffic collisions are motorcyclists and scooterists. This is slightly higher than the national average.

The Take Control training scheme aims to enhance rider ability, confidence, and attitude and reduce the numbers of riders injured in road traffic collisions  through the delivery of subsidised, targeted, accessible and practical motorcycle training.

The training is organised by the Safer Roads Partnerships in West Mercia and Warwickshire and is produced with the support of the Department for Transport. The Motor Cycle Industry Association has also leant its support to Take Control.

Experienced advanced instructors follow a training format of defensive road riding, while also tailoring a practical on-road session to suit each motorcyclist's level of experience and the type of riding that they do.

Five Take Control courses are on offer - with three being completely free and the remaining two costing only £30 for a full day of instruction. Courses are available now to anyone who rides in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
