What Happens If I Have A Collision?

We all hope to avoid ending up in a collision on the roads, but what happens if you are unfortunate enough to suffer a bump or scrape when behind the wheel?

Being prepared and knowing what to do go can go a long way to taking some of the stresses out of an unpleasant experience.

That's why West Mercia Police has put together a special advice leaflet which answers the most frequently asked questions we encounter while dealing with collisions. We will issue this leaflet at every collision that we attend and you can also download it below.

The leaflet tells motorists:

  • What the law says about when to report collisions on roads or other public places
  • When the police will attend a collision
  • What will happen if police do attend
  • What circumstances may lead to a prosecution of drivers involved in collisions
  • When and how your vehicle might be recovered from the roadside
  • Advice on what you will need to tell your insurance company
  • What happens if the other driver is not insured.

On the back of the leaflet is a handy section on which you can jot down details you may need for any subsequent police reports or insurance claims.

It also provides some helpful contact numbers for Victim Support and road safety organisations such as Brake, Road Peace and SCARD (Support and Care after Road Death and Injury).

Why not save a copy to your computer and print it off to keep handy in the car, just in case?
