Firearms And Explosives Licensing
From 1 October, a combined Warwickshire and West Mercia Police Firearms and Explosives Licensing Unit will administer licenses for all current firearms, shotguns and explosives certificate holders in the joint force area.
Based in Malvern, the unit will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the way in which firearms are licensed to citizens, businesses and organisations.
The unit will be responsible for providing a service to 48,000 certificate holders – the largest number of firearms owners in England and Wales from a single Licensing Unit.
From 1 July the process for renewal has changed.
If you wish to renew your Warwickshire or West Mercia certificate, you must submit a renewal application to Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police’s Firearms & Explosives Licensing Unit.
If we receive your application at least eight weeks (56 days) before the expiry date, your renewed certificate will be posted to you before your existing certificate expires, subject to routine criminal/health checks. As part of our review you should expect a visit from a Firearms Enquiry Officer (FEO) or a telephone interview.
A copy of the renewal application form can be downloaded from this webpage or collected from your local police station.
All current certificate holders will be notified when their certificates is about to expire; however Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police will no longer send renewal application forms with the letter.
