FOI 3581 Complaints Of Racism

I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 2 March 2012 . Please find below the response to your request:

1. How many complaints of racism has your force received by (a) an alleged victim (b) a fellow police officer, or (c) a third party in respect of racist comments or behaviour by a member of your force? Please give figures for each of the last three calendar years (2009, 2010, 2011).

Please be advised that  complaints for (a) and (c) are not differentiated between on force recording systems

2. How many officers have been disciplined as a result of complaints of racism in the same three year period and what was the result of that disciplinary action?

Reply

Please be advised that one officer had a complaint of racism made against them so they are counted in the table below, however they were not subsequently disciplined for this but they were disciplined for a connected matter - not of a racial nature. Therefore the action taken and the words/phrase used are not shown below .

2010 - Final Written Warning

2011 - Management Action - Not Misconduct

3. In relation to the last five incidents, which fall within the remit of Q2, please state any words or phrases that were deemed to have been racist.
