Feedback From Public Consultations And Surveys

Successful policing is a community-based activity that requires the commitment and active engagement of our communities, citizens and partners.

A greater understanding of the needs and expectations of our communities, victims and witnesses helps the force to improve satisfaction with the services we provide, prevent and detect even more crime and be more effective in targeting offenders.

The force is making real efforts to consult in ways that enable us to ask more incisive questions about our performance, our service, our customers' needs, and the impact of our activities, policies and procedures. We are also committed to reporting back to you the results of our consultation. This meets the requirements placed on the force by the Home Office's Quality of Service Commitment.

Our consultation initiatives include:

  • Partners and Communities Together (PACT) (undertaken by our Local Policing Teams)
  • Victim of Crime Surveys
  • Crime and Safety Survey

Local Policing and PACT

Crime is falling across West Mercia but the public perception is that it is increasing. We want to address this misconception and provide greater reassurance by reporting back on a regular basis about what we have been doing, making it easier to contact us and providing more opportunities for local people to help determine how their community is policed.

To achieve this we have established 145 Local Policing Areas, each with its own dedicated Local Policing Team, consisting of at least one Local Police Officer and a Community Support Officer. The role of a Local Policing Team is to:

  • Understand their local neighbourhood
  • Engage with communities and partners to identify local crime, safety or quality of life issues
  • Agree with communities and partners the top priorities for neighbourhood action
  • Work with partners and communities to deliver an agreed approach

Our aim is to put communities - their needs, their issues and their priorities - at the centre of our local policing service.

A range of consultation and engagement methods is used to achieve this objective. Branded across the force as PACT - Partners and Communities Together - methods include PACT meetings, surgeries and community surveys.
