STATUTORY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS – 2007/08

Statutory Performance Indicators (SPIs) are used to help measure how well a service is performing. They are used by public service organisations such as Local Authorities and the Fire Service. The Indicators for policing are set by the Home Office and are used by police forces throughout England and Wales.

The Police Authority's Performance Monitoring Panel (FPM) will monitor recorded levels of the most serious crimes, which often involve cross-border enquiries (eg, murder, kidnap, stranger rape, armed robbery, aggravated burglary, etc).

79,930 - a reduction of 1,600 offences compared to 2006/07.

There were 70 serious crime offences recorded during the year.

All of our Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) have been set a base line and targets against this measure. For 2007/8 this will be monitored by the FPM Respective targets achieved by four divisions and the fifth division achieved a reduction compared to baseline but just short of target.

Protecting the Public

10. Road traffic casualties The Year 2010 Government reduction target requires less than 800 people per year being killed or seriously injured in the West Mercia area. Through our education and enforcement campaigns we will aim to achieve a significantly lower figure than this. Based on performance over the year, the force is achieving the 2010 target by a margin of 25.1% (201 fewer casualties).
