Volunteer Cadets
West Mercia Police operates a cadet scheme in operation in Telford, aimed at 16-18 year olds who want to get a taste for police life.
Cadets undertake a wide range of activities from first aid and self defence to learning a basic understanding of the law and the various elements of the criminal justice system.
They are given the opportunity to take part in role-play exercises, to meet operational staff and officers from many different departments and guest speakers frequently attend meetings. Cadets have a chance to put some of their newfound skills and knowledge in to practice when they support officers at organised events such as bonfire night celebrations.
Learning new skills and meeting new friends, working as part of a team and undertaking interesting and challenging activities are all part of being a volunteer cadet. In addition, cadets have the satisfaction of knowing they have made a difference within their local community.
