Herefordshire Divisional Commander Biography
Chief Superintendent Mark Turner
BA (Hons), Dip. Criminal Justice Studies
Mark joined West Mercia Police in 1992, fresh from obtaining a law degree at Oxford. He served initially at Worcester before gaining a promotion and going on to work in Redditch and Bromsgrove where he performed a variety of uniformed and detective roles, up to the rank of chief inspector.
He became Staff Officer to the Association of Chief Police Officers Committee on the Police Use of Firearms, and then went on to evaluate various elements of divisional policing across West Mercia as part of a ‘best value’ review. He performed a further divisional role as Chief Inspector (Operations) in Herefordshire before leading the Criminal Justice Support Department as a superintendent.
Returning to Herefordshire as a superintendent in 2005, Mark became the divisional commander shortly afterwards and remains one of the force's firearms commanders.
Mark is the chairman of the West Mercia branch of the Superintendents' Association. He co-ordinates the West Mercia Police Christian Fellowship and is the senior liaison officer for police chaplaincy.
