Introduction from the Divisional Commander

Ch Supt Mark TurnerHerefordshire is still one of the safest places in the UK with low levels of crime and anti-social behaviour, which have continued to fall in the past 12 months, recording a drop of seven per cent and three per cent respectively.

We are committed to delivering the promises made in our Policing Pledge. An important component of this is the provision of local policing and crime information on the force's website. Crime statistics are available for each local policing area and are updated monthly.

We continue to serve our communities by treating people according to their needs, by conducting high quality investigations and by keeping victims and witnesses regularly informed of progress.

We aim to protect our communities by identifying the vulnerable and acting to reduce the risk of harm, by providing a prompt, prioritised response to incidents and by targeting named suspects quickly and robustly.

We want to make a real difference to the county by listening to and addressing communities' needs and providing visible and ongoing reassurance.

One particular development over the last twelve months has been the introduction of a scheduled appointments service to deliver a more tailored response to less serious crimes and incidents. In turn, this frees up officers to respond to, and investigate, more challenging incidents.

We will continue to promote and develop the PACT process (meetings, surveys and surgeries) and work with our partners, notably Herefordshire Council - to achieve our aims and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour across the county even further.

Chief Superintendent Mark Turner

Not In Herefordshire!

Herefordshire is already one of the safest places in the UK and West Mercia Police is acknowledged as being one of the best performing police forces in the country. We do recognise however that the fear of crime in Herefordshire is disproportionate to the reality and our Not in Herefordshire campaign seeks to redress that.

Through a series of promotional activities, the campaign highlights the positives about living, working or visiting Herefordshire, answering such questions as: 'Crime. Is it getting worse?' or 'House burglaries on the increase?' with a resounding  "Not in Herefordshire!"
