Introduction From the Divisional Commander
Crime levels in Shropshire continue to fall and a three per cent reduction has been achieved in the last twelve months. This brings crime down to its lowest level in five years, resulting in almost 5,000 fewer incidents.
I became divisional commander in December 2008 and in 2009/10 we intend to continue to improve the quality of service that we give to the people of the county.
We are committed to delivering the promises made in our policing pledge . An important component of this is the provision of local policing and crime information on the force's website. Crime statistics are available for each local policing area and are updated monthly.
Local policing continues to be the bedrock of policing in Shropshire, with 43 local police officers and 81 community support officers covering the county in addition to response officers and other specialist resources.
We are working to further improve the level of confidence and satisfaction that the public has with our service, which is a key objective of our policing plan. To deliver this, our local policing teams listen carefully to the needs and concerns of communities and work closely with them through the PACT process to identify and solve local issues.
We now have almost 80 volunteers in Shropshire, who provide valuable support in a number of areas, including staffing front counters at some of our smaller stations and running community projects such as Rural Watch.
All of our work is underpinned by strong partnerships with other agencies which maximise the opportunities for reducing and detecting the issues that affect our communities and ensure the county remains a safe place to live.
Chief Superintendent Andy Rowsell
