NARPO
Welcome to the West Mercia Branch of NARPO (National Association of Retired Police Officers). NARPO is the voice of retired officers. Our object is to safeguard the rights of members and to promote measures for their welfare, with particular regards to pensions. We have a good social calendar which I hope you will join us in during the coming months.
Eddie Barry MBE QPM
Chairman, West Mercia Narpo
Who is eligible to join?
Full membership of NARPO is open to all officers who have completed 25/30 years' service, or who have retired on grounds of age or ill-health. Associate membership is available to those such as retired police staff who have an interest in our aims and activities, or former officers who are now in receipt of a ‘preserved' pension, subject to approval by the Branch Committee. Widows, widowers and partners of deceased officers are also eligible to join. Contact the Branch Secretary for more information, or an application form if you are not yet a member.
About NARPO in West Mercia
We have three sub-branches, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, each with its own committee. We also have a larger, main committee consisting of representatives from all the areas, plus branch officers.
You will be allocated to the sub-branch of the area you live in, unless you specifically ask to join a different one. If you live outside the force area, you will be a member of the main branch. Each sub-branch holds regular meetings, trips and functions, and the main branch is also involved with events arranged for all members.

Reminder to all pensioners:
Police Dependants' Trust (PDT)
The PDT exists to provide financial help to pensioners on low incomes who retired due to an injury on duty, and their families. It can also help the dependants of an officer who has died due to such an injury. The Trust can provide grants for maintenance (eg basic living costs) children's needs, special purposes (eg disability aids), holidays, funerals and residential care.
If you are a pensioner or dependant who falls into this category, you should register with the PDT, even if you do not need assistance immediately. You can also donate funds to the Trust by Gift Aid or by legacies. For more information about registering or donating, please see the PDT website http://www.pdtrust.org/
Congratulations to...
...NARPO committee member Gary Protheroe, who was made a LIFE MEMBER of the Association at the Shropshire sub-branch dinner on December 2. He was presented with his badge and certificate by Eddie Barry, Branch Chair. Life Membership is awarded for ‘outstanding service to the Association at either Branch or National level’. Well done Gary !
