Police Witness Appeal Over Shrewsbury Assault

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a man was assaulted as he walked home in the early hours from a Shrewsbury nightclub.

The 25-year-old had left the C21 club and was walking up Abbey Foregate towards the Column at around 3.20am on Monday when he was pushed from behind and knocked to the ground.

He cut his cheek in the fall and was treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "This was an unprovoked incident.  The victim was walking on the pavement near New Zealand House opposite the junction with Monkmoor Road when someone came up behind and pushed him in the back.

"We are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101.  Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111."
