Police Wish Everyone A Safe Halloween

West Mercia Police is running its ‘No Trick or Treat' campaign once again this year to ensure everyone has a safe Halloween and to urge all youngsters who are going out trick or treating to have fun without causing distress to other people.

Police are encouraging residents to display a specially designed ‘No Trick or Treat' sign in their window or door if they do not wish to be disturbed by nuisance visitors on Wednesday 31 October or over the weekend.

West Mercia Police Crime Risk Advisor Mike Stephenson said: "Although West Mercia is generally a safe place to live, many people feel concerned about anti-social behaviour at this time of year and elderly or vulnerable residents may feel intimidated by trick or treaters at their door.

"We would like to remind people they do have the right to say no to trick or treaters.

"I would also advise people to bear in mind basic safety principles: always use your door chain when opening the door and do not let anyone in your house unless you are sure of their identity.

"We have specially designed ‘No Trick or Treat' posters, which carry advice for householders on the back. Trick or treaters are asked to show respect and move on if they see one of the posters."

The ‘No Trick or Treat' posters are available from police station front counters and are also being distributed by Safer Neighbourhood Teams, who can be contacted on 0300 333 3000.
