Anniversary Checks Following Leegomery Incident

Police in Telford are set to carry out anniversary checks this weekend at the scene of where an incident occurred in Leegomery last week.

An incident took place between the occupants of two vehicles - a black BMW and a silver Polo, which were parked in Grainger Drive, at around 7.15pm last Saturday (8 September).

One occupant from each of the vehicles got out and a brief foot chase between the two occurred, towards Catterick Close.

It appears that the individual from the BMW, who was believed to be wearing a balaclava, may have been carrying a handgun, although no shots were fired.

The individual from the BMW soon returned back to the vehicle and it drove off towards Hadley.

The individual from the Polo made off.

Police are investigating the incident and have already appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Wells said that following the initial appeal a number of people came forward and officers are now appealing for more specific witnesses to contact them.

He said: "Following the initial appeal for witnesses, a number of people came forward with information. On the back of that, we are now appealing to the owner of a dark coloured Vauxhall Corsa, which was parked in the area at the time to come forward and speak to us. From where the vehicle was parked, we believe that the occupants would have witnessed the incident so it is vital that we speak to these individuals.

"We also want to trace a group of young people who were in the vicinity at the time and would have witnessed the incident taking place."

He added: "It is the anniversary on Saturday so there will be a visible police presence in the area around the time the incident occurred.

"If you have any information at all in relation to the matter then we would really like to hear from you. Witnesses can call police direct on the usual number 101 and speak to us in confidence. Or if they prefer they can call anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
