Batchley Pupils Design Litter Poster
Year 7 pupils from Birchensale Middle School near Batchley were recently invited to design a poster as part of a competition run by Batchley and Brockhill Community Support Officer Oliver McCormack.
CSO McCormack decided to run the competition after issues were raised at the local PACT meeting in December about litter being dropped outside the shops in Batchley Road and Poplar Road.
He said: "Councillors at the meeting said they would arrange for litter pick ups to be organised through the Council, so I thought it would be good to run the competition for local pupils to also make them aware of the issue."
Pupils were asked to design a poster to encourage people to dispose of litter correctly, and the PACT panel were asked to choose the winning design.
Sam Blake was chosen as the winner and was presented with a £20 WHSmith voucher as his prize on Friday, 27 January, by the Chair of PACT, Maureen Muckle, and CSO McCormack. The posters will now be put up around the Batchley area in the hope they will help to discourage people from dropping litter.
CSO McCormack said: "We had some great designs sent in. Sam's design is bright and bold and hopefully will stand out and get the message across when it is put up around Batchley."
The next PACT meeting for Batchley and Brockhill will be on Thursday, 2 February, at the H.D.A Club in Cherry Tree Walk starting at 7pm.
Anyone living or working locally is welcome to attend the meeting but if for any reason they cannot make it but want to raise an issue they can still do so by contacting the local policing team.
