Big Police Operation For Shrewsbury v Port Vale Local Derby
Extra officers will be on duty during the policing operation for Shrewsbury's local derby League Two game with Port Vale on Saturday.
The match kicks off at 1pm and fans from both sides are being urged to arrive in good time.
It is an all-ticket game for away fans who are advised not to travel unless they have a ticket.
Chief Inspector Martin Whitelegg said today: "The key point is that it's an all-ticket game for Port Vale supporters. They shouldn't travel to Shrewsbury without a ticket because they will be turned away."
He said Port Vale had received a ticket allocation of around 1,100, most of which had already been sold.
"Obviously, we are expecting one of the biggest attendances of the season so it's important everyone arrives in time to avoid a last-minute rush," said Chief Inspector Whitelegg.
He stressed there would be a large police presence to deal with any outbreaks of disorder.
"We are putting a significant policing operation in place to ensure genuine supporters from both sides can enjoy the game without interference. Anyone intent on causing disorder will be dealt with robustly.
"There will be extra officers on duty in the town during the day and in the vicinity of the ground. We will also be policing the car parks at the stadium at the request of the club."
Chief Inspector Whitelegg added: "Supporters should travel in good time and fans from the Potteries shouldn't come unless they have a ticket."
