Burglary At Worcester Homeless Charity
Thieves have caused nearly £2,000 worth of damage after breaking into a centre which provides support for homeless people in Worcester.
Police are appealing for information about the burglary, which happened at Maggs Day Centre on Deansway in the early hours of Sunday, 22 January, between 1.20am and 3.30am.
The former St Albans church was broken into and internal walls were damaged in order to get to offices within the building. A quantity of money was then stolen from a safe and further damage caused to the centre's fixtures and fittings.
PC Alexander Denny from Worcester police station said: "Maggs Day Centre provides shelter and support to homeless people in Worcester and is heavily used.
"Due to funding cuts, the day centre is now funded entirely through donations and grants, and it can ill afford to repair the damage caused by these mindless criminals.
"We believe there may be two people responsible for the burglary - one who went inside the centre, while the other acted as a look out.
"I would appeal to any members of the public who were in the area at the time and recall seeing people hanging around outside the centre, near to the gates of the Worcester College of Technology on Deansway, to get in touch."
Anyone with information about this incident can call PC Denny on 0300 333 3000, quoting 172S 220112 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
