CCTV Image Released Following Racist Incident In Worcester Bookies

CCTV ImagePolice in Worcester have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to about an incident of racist abuse in a city centre bookmakers.

On Saturday, 30 June, a man was in Ladbrokes on The Cross watching a race on a television screen, when another man stood in front of him.

He asked the man if he could move at which point, the man turned round and used racist language to verbally abuse the victim, who is black.

PC Tracy Swift is investigating the incident. She said: "This was a totally unprovoked attack on a man who was only trying to watch a horse race when he was abused because of the colour of his skin.

"The man who issued the racist abuse is described as white man with an Irish accent.

"While I appreciate this incident happened some time ago, we have only recently obtained CCTV footage in relation to the matter.

"We are keen to speak to the man in this image as he may have seen something which could help us with our investigation.

"This sort of attack is totally unacceptable and I would urge anyone who knows the man pictured to contact us.

"Alternatively, if you recognise yourself as the man in this image, please call us as soon as possible so we can eliminate you from our inquiries if necessary."

Anyone with information about this incident can call PC Swift on 0300 333 3000, quoting 190S 090712 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
