Crackdown On Boy Racers In Kidderminster
Police are cracking down on boy racers using a Kidderminster shopping centre car park in the evenings.
Officers held a joint operation on the Weavers Wharf car park with colleagues from VOSA - the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, Wyre Forest District Council and Weavers Wharf management between 6pm and 10pm on Thursday and Friday last week, 8 and 9 December.
VOSA officers inspected vehicles and issued nine prohibition notices requiring defects to be rectified.
Problems included defective tyres, brake lights, and headlights, windows which were too heavily tinted and illegal number plates with letters incorrectly formed so they were difficult to read.
Weavers Wharf management also issued one banning notice which means that if the person is caught again they can be banned from Weavers Wharf completely.
PC Andy Forbes of West Mercia Police said Weavers Wharf was attracting boy racers who were doing donuts and handbrake turns in the evenings.
He said: "There were some concerns about boy racers causing nuisance, anti social behaviour and litter on the car park during the evenings.
"We want people to be encouraged to visit Weavers Wharf or the town centre in general in the evenings.
""We will therefore be carrying out more of these joint operations in the future, as well as our usual regular patrols."
