Cyclist Injured In A38 Collision Dies

A cyclist who was injured in a collision which happened in Droitwich on Friday (10 August) has since passed away in hospital.

The 18-year-old died after the BMX bicycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a blue Kia Picanto on the A38 outside the Chateau Impney Hotel at around 3.25pm.

The Bromsgrove teenager is believed to have been cycling along the pavement when the Picanto - travelling away from Droitwich Spa - appeared to mount the path before colliding with the teenager.

The cyclist received considerable medical attention at the scene and was air-lifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he died the following day (Saturday, 11 August).

The coroner for Worcestershire has been informed and an inquest will be opened in due course.

PC Leon Westwood is investigating the collision. He said: "Our thoughts are with this young man's family and friends at this sad time.

"We are still appealing for witnesses to the incident and I would urge anyone who saw it happen, or witnessed either the bicycle or the Picanto in the moments leading up to the collision, to come forward."

Anyone with information about this incident can contact PC Westwood on 0300 333 3000, quoting 535S 100812.

A woman in her 50s from Tenbury Wells was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident. She has since been released on police bail while officers continue their inquiries.
