Distraction Burglary In Bromsgrove
Police are appealing for witnesses to a distraction burglary in Bromsgrove.
It happened in Barley Mow Lane, Catshill, at around 7pm last night, Wednesday 23 November.
The victim, a woman in her 80s, answered her front door to a man who said he was doing work at a nearby house and would need to switch the water off.
He did show some form of identification, but the victim was not given the opportunity to examine it properly.
At first she refused him entry but he was very insistent and eventually she led him into the kitchen.
She then realised another man was in the bathroom.
After a couple of minutes they left on foot heading, towards the A38.
Both men were white. The first one was in his 50s, wearing a cap and navy blue anorak, and had an Irish accent. The second man was also in his 50s, of fat build, and was wearing dark clothing.
Detective Constable Adrian Smith said: "It is not believed anything was stolen, but the victim was nevertheless extremely shocked and distressed.
"An extensive search of the area and house to house enquires have been carried out and we are appealing for anyone with information to contact us on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 479-s-231111 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
West Mercia Police's ‘Knock Knock' campaign aims to raise awareness about the security measures people should take before they let any strangers into their home.
Residents, especially older and vulnerable people, are reminded to be vigilant, especially when they are not expecting a caller and answer the door to someone they do not know.
Door chains should be used while a caller's identification is established and any ID badges carefully checked. If householders have any doubts about a caller's identity, they should not let them in.
Neighbours can help by keeping an eye on people calling in the area or acting suspiciously, including noting any registration numbers of vehicles.
