Drain Covers Stolen In North Shropshire
Police in north Shropshire are urging people to get in touch if they spot roadside drain covers being tampered with.
The plea follows two recent thefts of metal covers from roads in the area.
Police Constable Mark Hobden said two drain covers were stolen from near the bypass bridge in Betton Road, Market Drayton between 9.30am and 10am yesterday (Jan 9).
It follows the theft of four covers from Tilstock over the weekend.
PC Hobden, based at Market Drayton police station, said: "This is not the first time this has happened. There have been a number of similar incidents in north Shropshire during recent weeks.
"This is obviously very dangerous to passing motorists and to other members of the public and I am appealing for any information which might help in tracing the offenders.
"I urge people to call the police on the 101 non-emergency number immediately if they see people tampering with roadside drains or their covers.
"This will enable us to make a quick check on the people involved. If they turn out to be genuine highways staff, it does not matter. We just need information to assist in detecting those responsible".
Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers independent charity by calling 0800 555 111.
