Driver Assaulted In Telford

Police are appealing for information after a motorist was assaulted following an incident on a Telford road.

A 28 year-old man was driving along Bridgnorth Road at around 1.20pm yesterday(Tuesday 6 December) when he noticed a silver Volkswagen Jetta driving close behind. The driver of the Volkswagen attempted to overtake. The victim made a hand gesture towards the driver and continued driving.

However, when the vehicles got to Brookside Avenue in Brookside, the driver of the Volkswagen pulled in front of the victim's vehicle and blocked the road.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles and the driver of the Volkswagen punched the victim to the face.

Another man appeared and he also started to punch the victim about the head.

The victim managed to grab the driver of the Volkswagen in a headlock.

When he broke free both offenders made off.

The victim suffered bruising and swelling to his head and face. He did not require medical treatment.

Police are investigating the matter and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. In particular they are eager to trace one specific witness.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "Following the incident a man came forward and spoke to the victim to make sure he was ok. He handed the victim his details and left.

"Police have tried to contact the potential witness but unfortunately there is one digit missing in the phone number he wrote down.

"We really need to speak to this person so if this is you please come forward.

"We would also ask anyone else who saw the incident or has information in relation to the matter to come forward."

The driver of the Volkswagen is described as an Asian male, aged in his late 20's, of stocky build  and around 5ft 11ins tall. He had short black hair and was wearing a dark brown top and dark blue jeans.

The second male, who is believed to have come from another car, is described as an Asian male aged 20 to 30 years-old with black hair. He was wearing a white top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Telford Police on the new non-emergency number 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
