Fun Event For Young People In Telford

Young people in an area of Telford are being invited to attend a fun sports event later this month.

Trench and Wrockwardine Wood Local Policing Team have been working with the parish council to stage the event at Oakengates Leisure Centre on 22 August.

The event will host street sports, a climbing wall, an inflatable assault course, numerous stalls and much more.

The popular social event has been taking place for the last few years and always proves to be a roaring success.

Organisers are hoping that this year's event will be as equally successful.

Community Support Officer for Trench and Wrockwardine Wood Richard Harrison said: "The local policing team and the parish council try to put some sort of event on in the holidays for young people living in the area.

"It gives them something to do and have fun and helps us to engage with young people from the community.

"We're not really sure how many people will be attending but in the past few years we've had figures ranging from 400 to 1,000. It all depends on the weather, but hopefully the rain will stay away."

The event starts at 11am and will finish at around 3pm. There will be a small cost to use the inflatable equipment and climbing wall. Barbecue food will also be available at a small cost.

Throughout the school holidays West Mercia Police is running a Respect campaign which promotes a range of measures the police and its partners have set up to reduce anti-social behaviour, raise awareness of the impact anti-social behaviour can have on others, and encourage respect and tolerance.
