Leegomery Unexplained Death Investigation Continues
Police in Telford are continuing to investigate the unexplained death of a woman whose body was found at an address in Leegomery yesterday afternoon.
The body of the 24-year-old woman was discovered at an address on Berberis Road at just before 3.30pm on Tuesday 7 September, a short time after a man had walked into a local police station to report an incident at that particular address.
Officers responding to this report discovered the woman's body and a 53-year-old man was immediately arrested on suspicion of murder.
Acting Detective Inspector Billy Scott, who is part of the team investigating this death, said:
"I can confirm that the 53-year-old man we arrested yesterday remains in custody at Malinsgate Police Station. We will now continue to question him during the course of the day.
"The scene on Berberis Road remains cordoned off and I would expect a police guard to stay in place for the rest of the day at the very least.
"The body has not yet been formally identified but a home office post mortem is set to take place early this afternoon. We hope this will help us establish the cause of the woman's death.
"A team of more than 15 officers are currently working on this investigation and I would expect their work to continue for some time. House-to-house enquiries will again be taking place today but I would also encourage anyone who believes they may have information about this incident to make contact with us.
"Anyone with information or suspicions that relate to this death, or activity at the address on Berberis Road, is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000.
"Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would rather not get directly involved yourself."
