Ludlow Police Seek Owners Of Power Tools

Police in Ludlow are trying to trace the owners of power tools and other building equipment worth hundreds of pounds.

More than 20 power tools and specialist carpentry items were seized by police carrying out a search warrant at a house in Sandpits Avenue, Ludlow earlier this month.

They believe the items to be stolen but have been unable to trace the owners.

Detective Constable Scott Ward, of Ludlow CID, said today: "We are appealing for anyone who has had tools stolen over the past month or so to get in touch.  They are very welcome to come and view the tools at Ludlow police station by contacting me on 0300 333 3000.

"It's likely they have been stolen from a works van, garage, shed or some other workplace and may have been taken from more than one location.  They appear to be the sort of tools used by a professional tradesman, carpenter or builder."

He said the equipment could have been stolen locally in south Shropshire but it was just as likely it was taken from elsewhere in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire or the Dyfed Powys area.

"Most of the items are power tools of various makes and include drills, sanders, grinders and a plane.  There are also some specialist hand tools including a spirit level and some chisels in a wooden box."

DC Ward added: "We are anxious to return these items to their rightful owners and urge anyone who has recently had such tools stolen, to make contact."

Two men in their twenties have been arrested in connection with the investigation on suspicion of going equipped to burgle.  They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
