Malvern Distraction Burglar Steals Cash
Police are appealing for information after a distraction burglary which took place on Tuesday 30 October involving a visually impaired victim.
The man in his 50s, who also has learning difficulties, lives in a warden controlled flat in Battisto Walk, near Burrows Close, Malvern.
A man rang the victim's doorbell between approximately 5pm-6pm on Tuesday and the victim answered the door. The offender asked to come inside but the victim refused. The offender made his way inside anyway and went into the lounge. The victim was persuaded to buy Christmas cards and other items from the offender. The victim collected his money box from the bedroom in order to pay for the items but the offender took the box and helped himself to £80 cash, as well as the victim's bank card and pin number which was written down.
The offender is described as wearing a black jumper and smart coat.
PC Phil Wood, from Worcester police station, said: "This was a callous incident involving a vulnerable victim and we are interested in speaking to anyone in the Malvern area who was visited recently by door to door sales people attempting to sell cleaning products. Please call West Mercia Police 101 quoting ois number 21n311012 or independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555111".
