Man Arrested In Shrewsbury Sexual Assault Investigation

Police investigating a sexual assault on a 43-year-old woman in Shrewsbury, have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of committing a sexual assault on the woman near Kingsland toll bridge at around 11.20pm on July 13.

Earlier this month, police released an e-fit picture of the suspect.

The victim was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette light and then indecently touched her before running off.  She was not seriously hurt but was left frightened and distressed.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "I can confirm that a 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of sexual assault.  He has been interviewed and given police bail while inquiries continue."
