Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a street robbery in Redditch in which a man was hit with a baseball bat.

It happened at about 6.50pm on Friday, April 13, in Ombersley Close, in the Woodrow area.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was collecting money from customers and had just got back into his car when he noticed a man dressed in dark clothing and a balaclava approaching.

He was carrying a baseball bat and started to threaten the victim and demand money before pulling him out of his car.

During the incident the offender hit the victim on the legs with the bat and took a bum bag which contained a substantial quantity of cash before running off.

The victim sustained bruising to his hands and legs but did not require medical treatment.

The offender is described as white, slim, about 18 to 22 years old, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins in height and was dressed all in black.

Detective Constable Dave Jennings from Redditch CID said: "This was a nasty attack and we would ask anyone who remembers seeing the robbery or the offender in the area to call us with any information they may have."

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody helping police with their inquiries.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact DC Jennings on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident 623-S-130412, or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
