Man Charged With Criminal Damage To Market Drayton CCTV Camera

A man has been charged with damaging a security camera installed to record anti-social and criminal behaviour in Market Drayton.

The CCTV camera was set-up in an alleyway between Grosvenor Road and the Fairfields estate on April 13 but was vandalised the following day.

A Perspex dome around the camera, mounted on a lamp post by Shropshire Council, was smashed.

An 18-year-old man was arrested last Friday (May 25) and has been charged with causing criminal damage to the camera.  He is due to appear before Shrewsbury magistrates on June 11.

Sergeant Graham Salem said: "Although the thoroughfare between Grosvenor Road and the Fairfields estate is a sensitive issue in the community, criminal damage and other unlawful activity will not be tolerated.

"The police are working together with Shropshire Council and other partners in relation to this issue."

The CCTV camera is being repaired and will soon be re-installed at the location.
