Narrowboat Broken Into And Set Alight In Shirley

Police are appealing for information about an incident in which a narrowboat was broken into and set alight.

It happened between midnight and 12.30am on Thursday, 19th January, on the Stratford on Avon canal at Drawbridge Road, Shirley.

The 62ft red and black narrowboat was moored near the Drawbridge pub.

A mattress was set alight in the bedroom, destroying the interior of the boat, causing £40,000 damage.

Several items have also been reported stolen, including a suitcase generator worth £600, an old starter/charger worth £250, and a security box containing 24 sovereign coins.

It is likely a vehicle was used due to the weight of the items stolen.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Andy Freeman at West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 11-s-190112 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
