Neighbours Help Detain Burglary Suspect In Stourport

A suspected burglar who was chased from a house in Stourport was detained in the street by the homeowner with the help of neighbours who answered his calls for help.

The suspect was arrested by police after they were called to Mayberry Close at around 9.20pm last night (Wednesday, May 9).

Shortly before that a man had given chase after disturbing an intruder in his integral garage nearby in Lower Lickhill Road.

A neighbour heard him calling for help and helped the restrain the suspect. Other neighbours then arrived on the scene to help detain the man until police arrived.

During the incident the homeowner, a man in his 40s, suffered several injuries including one to his head for which he received treatment at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital. He was later discharged.

Detective Sergeant Marc Sanders of Kidderminster CID said: "We would like to thank those members of the public who came to the householder's aid so quickly.

"We have been carrying out door to door enquiries in the area and people are obviously concerned that this happened. However we have been able to reassure them that thanks to this great example of community spirit someone has been apprehended very quickly."

Anyone who has information that could help the police investigation should call officers at Kidderminster CID on 101, quoting incident reference 605-S-090512, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
