North Shropshire Events Promote Personal Safety Week

Police across North Shropshire will be promoting how to stay safe this festive season at a number of events to mark Personal Safety Week.

Among other events, officers in Market Drayton are due to focus on women's safety and will be attending community centres and various health and social classes to hand out advice leaflets and talk to those in attendance about personal safety.

They will be speaking to people about staying safe during nights out, including the reinforcement of advice to stay with friends, never going off with a stranger unless they have told a friend where they are going and only ever getting a licensed taxi home.

In Ellesmere, the local policing team will have a stall in the foyer of Tesco between midday and 2pm on Thursday 9 December, when they will be speaking to shoppers about keeping themselves safe while out in the town's night venues this Christmas and New Year.

And in Whitchurch, members of the Whitchurch Curves fitness club for women will also receive police advice on personal safety.

Community Support Officer Alison Hodnett and local policing officer PC Karena Evans have arranged to visit the gym in Brownlow Street Parade at 9am on Friday 10 December to discuss issues of concern and to provide tips and advice on keeping safe.

West Mercia's Personal Safety Week takes place from Monday 6 until Friday 10 December.

The week of action aims to raise awareness of personal safety messages relevant to the Christmas party season including domestic abuse, enjoying a safe night out and rape and sexual assault.

Local policing teams across the force are holding events throughout the week and distributing materials to promote important safety tips.
