Police Appeal for Witnesses To Wem Assault

Police today appealed for witnesses to an assault in Wem at the weekend in which a man is thought to have been struck in the face with a bottle.

The incident involved a fight between several men in High Street at around 10pm on Saturday.

Detective Constable Nick Williams, the investigating officer, said a 24-year-old man was treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, receiving stitches in several cuts to his face before being discharged.

He said: "I am anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed a confrontation between the injured man and a group of males in High Street at around 10pm on Saturday. The man was struck with a hard object believed to be a bottle, causing facial injuries.

"The incident happened opposite The Castle pub and there were a lot of people in the street at the time.  I am appealing for witnesses to contact me at Market Drayton or Wem police station on the 101 non emergency number".
