Police Gift For Shropshire Woman

A Shropshire pensioner left virtually penniless when more than £5,000 was stolen from her bank account, has received a £200 gift from police.

The woman, who is in a care home, could not even afford to have her hair cut or go on residents' outings.

Police Constable Stephanie Coombes said the theft was still being investigated .  It had left the victim shocked and upset with only about £5 a week to live on.

"Regardless of the outcome of the case, I felt she was a deserving candidate for a donation from the West Mercia Police Community Fund.

"The PC Fund is a charity largely made up of voluntary contributions from officers and staff.  It enables small donations to be given to victims of crime where they can make a real difference".

PC Coombes added: "The trustees agreed to give £200 which should help to make life a little better for her."

A 28-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of theft and remains on bail while further investigations are carried out.

Please note no further address is being given to protect the victim's identity.
