Police Help Shrewsbury Residents Security Mark Property
Residents at a sheltered housing scheme in Shrewsbury have been given some top tips on protecting their valuables.
A property marking session was staged today by the Local Policing Team at the community hall in Porchfields, Monkmoor for residents from the 66 flats and bungalows in the housing complex.
Local Policing Officer PC Kerry Hawkins explained the advantages of security marking items like mobile phones and electrical goods.
Together with Community Support Officers Dave Simpson and Kassie Beasley, she then helped residents use ultra violet pens to mark items of property brought to the session.
She said: "About 30 residents attended and more than 100 items were marked. The event was extremely successful and I was delighted with the turnout and the interest shown.
"The exercise provides reassurance that it is possible for people to be reunited with their property should it be lost or stolen. It also delivers a message that simple crime prevention measures can go a long way to deterring burglars and thieves."
PC Hawkins said the two-hour session was so successful it is likely to be repeated in neighbouring areas.
She added: "I would like to thank Helen Hawthorne from Severnside Housing and the residents at Porchfields for their positive approach to the event."
