Police Investigate Whitchurch Burglaries

Police today issued an appeal for witnesses following a weekend spate of house burglaries in Whitchurch.

Six homes were targeted overnight on Saturday.  Most of the breakins are thought to have taken place in the early evening, between 6pm and 8pm.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "It's likely the same people were responsible for all these crimes.  We are appealing for witnesses, especially concerning anyone seen acting suspiciously at the various locations.

"If you have any information which might help the police, contact Whitchurch police station on the 101 non-emergency number."

Burglaries were reported in Chester Road, two homes in Smallbrook Road, Dodington, Sharps Drive and Kingsway.

The thieves gained entry in different ways - by forcing patio doors, removing beading round a window, through an insecure back door, smashing a window and forcing conservatory doors.

Among items stolen were jewellery, a laptop, camera and perfume.  Damage amounted to hundreds of pounds.

"We are continuing to investigate including carrying out house to house inquiries.  Local Policing officers will also be on the alert and we are reminding residents to be security conscious and to take all possible precautions to ensure their homes are secure," added the police spokesperson.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers independent charity by calling 0800 555 111.
