Police Search For Prison Absconder From Worcestershire

Have you seen Matthew Sharp? Police are releasing the details of a man from Worcestershire who has absconded from prison and is thought to be in the county. They are appealing for the public's helping in tracing him.

At 4pm on Monday 25 June, Matthew Sharp absconded from Leyhill Prison in Bristol where he was serving a sentence for GBH, received in 2007, and he is wanted by Avon and Somerset Police.

The 25-year-old comes from Worcester originally and he recently lived in Maple Avenue in Tolladine. He has also previously lived in Bromsgrove at an address in Alderley Road.

Detective Inspector Jim Fox of Worcester CID who is leading the search locally for Sharp said: "I would like to appeal for the public's help in tracing Matthew Sharp.  We believe he could be in the Worcestershire area.

"I would recommend that if anyone spots him, they do not approach him but contact West Mercia Police on 999 immediately.

"I would like to warn anyone that may be either harbouring Sharp or assisting him in some way, they are committing an offence and we will take a very grave view of it.

"If anyone has information as to his whereabouts, then I urge them to contact West Mercia Police on the non-emergency police number 101; or it can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
