Police Seek Mystery Caller In Shrewsbury

Police in Shrewsbury are trying to trace a mystery man who called to say he was feeling depressed and in need of help.

The man refused to give his full details but said his Christian name was Paul. He told the police control room he was near the Pig Trough, an alleyway leading off Coton Hill towards the River Severn.

"Due to the distressed nature of the call, we are concerned for this man's safety," said a West Mercia Police spokesperson.

"We are appealing for him to contact the police by calling 101 so we can establish he is safe and well.

"We are also asking members of the public to call us should they see a man acting suspiciously in the Coton Hill or Frankwell area.  He may well appear distressed."

Police have carried out a search of the area around the Pig Trough including house to house enquiries.

The call was received late morning and police enquiries are continuing.
