Redditch Girl Wins Halloween Colouring Competition

Saniye del Villar Alvarez with Inspector Jane Kembery and PC Richard Waterhouse.A girl from Redditch has won a colouring-in competition that was used by West Mercia Police to promote safety messages at Halloween.

Primary school children across the force area were asked to colour in their own versions of the ‘Have a Safe Halloween' poster produced by West Mercia Police, which passes on messages about staying safe and respecting people's privacy when out trick-or-treating.

In total 1,300 children sent in their posters and a winner for each policing area was selected

Saniye del Villar Alvarez, aged six, from Brockhill, who goes to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic First School, was selected as the winner for North Worcestershire for producing a rainbow-coloured poster with gold glitter. She was presented with a £20 book token as her prize by Local Policing Officer PC Richard Waterhouse and Inspector Jane Kembery, who works at West Mercia Police's headquarters and is a governor at the school.

Speaking about the competition, PC Waterhouse said: "The colouring-in competition was a very useful tool for getting young children to take notice of our trick-or-treating messages, such as always going with an adult, not talking to strangers and not bothering those households where there is a sign saying ‘No Trick or treat'.

"It was great to see so many young people take part and we received many colourful entries."
