Shropshire Burglary Suspects Arrested In West Midlands
Two men suspected of carrying out a series of burglaries in Shropshire during recent weeks, have been arrested by police.
The men, aged 29 and 35, were in a car which was stopped by officers from the West Midlands force at Dudley yesterday afternoon.
A search of the vehicle traced property believed to have been stolen in a burglary on a house in the Shifnal area on Wednesday.
The men, who come from Brierley Hill and Dudley, are currently in custody at Shrewsbury police station.
They are also being questioned about six or seven other domestic burglaries in different parts of Shropshire including the Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Shrewsbury and Oswestry areas.
The arrests follow heightened police activity earlier this week where six search warrants were carried out at homes in Shrewsbury, Market Drayton, Whitchurch and Ludlow as part of West Mercia Police's Citadel initiative targeting burglary suspects.
Since Citadel was launched last month, police in Shropshire have made a series of arrests for burglary and associated crime. Since April, 69 offenders have been charged with burglary offences - more than double the number for the same period last year.
